Description

Why makes a haynet sense?

First of all it provides the horse a continuing intake of hay without having too much of hay. This is good and important for its health.
For centuries the Steppes were home to generations of wild horses. Here the horses roamed freely eating on average 16 hours a day on whatever fresh or dry grasses and herbs that they could find, according to the season.

We don’t need to be scientists to understand how the horses of those times lived and ate. A steady rhythm of eating and constant movement, normally at a slow pace, an absorption of the necessary nutrients over the whole day. it is these conditions which have made horses physiologically what they are today. A haynet avoids the waste of fall down hay. Hay, that the horse does not want to eat anymore, because it lays in the mud, is mixed with excrement or because they had been sleeping on it. The loss of a big round hay bale on a paddock with many horses can quickly come up to 60%.

A haynet can save hay, expenses and because the consumption of the hay takes longer it economizes as well the work. Please notice, that the use of a haynet for horses with iron shoes should only take place in a hayrack.
