The smell of hay awakens pleasant thoughts in many people. The scent of freshly mown grass, meadow flowers and herbs reminds us of warm summer days. Simply sitting with the horses while they munch on their hay gives peace and security. For our horses, however, hay represents much more. Hay is a nutritionally important nutrient and fibre and should form the basis of any horse-friendly feed.
As the basis of feeding, horses consume a large amount of hay every day, because the horse's digestive system is geared towards obtaining energy from grasses and herbs. Hay is indispensable for the horse's intestinal health, increases chewing activity and promotes tooth wear in conjunction with slow feed intake. This makes it clear how important hay is in horse nutrition.
AGROBS® AlpenHeu ("Hay Alpine") is harvested at the right cutting time at the right cutting height. The time of cutting is determined by the vegetation and lies between the end of grass flowering and the beginning of seed formation. This achieves the high crude fibre content desired for horses and at the same time a low protein and fructan content.?After harvesting, the grasses and herbs are gently warm-air dried and mixed with sun-dried hay and dedusted. This produces high-quality, dust-free AGROBS® AlpenHeu.
The unique composition provides a variety of native minerals, trace elements and vitamins and makes AGROBS® AlpenHeu particularly tasty. Regular checks of the harvested areas are crucial for the high quality of AGROBS® AlpenHeu. At least once a year, for example, the plant population, the soil condition and also the area maintenance are checked. Among the greatest treasures of the Bavarian Alpine foothills are the meadows where AGROBS® AlpenHeu comes from. The growth of species-rich meadows with many herbs is favoured by the altitude and the calcareous soils.
