With the Equigurt®, Equimero® has developed a girth whose flexible yet stable joint system follows every movement. This makes the Equigurt® particularly suitable for horses where the girth position is close to the elbow, or where the girth position is less pronounced or the abdomen is more curved.
The horse's torso is constantly changing during movement: in bending, when stepping under, even when breathing. Since only a horse that breathes as freely as possible can be relaxed, breathing is a very important parameter for training.
The comfortably padded belly plate sits reliably stable yet flexibly between the girth straps on the breastbone. Here it distributes the tensile force of the saddle straps over its entire contact surface so that pressure on the underlying muscles is avoided.
The feedback from our customers proves us right: horses remain relaxed when girthing up and move more freely overall. Even girth tightening problems have been avoided with the Equigurt.
The padding is available in either airmesh or lambskin and is attached with Velcro. It can be easily changed and/or washed.
A small tip for selecting the size of the belly plate
Take a sheet of A4 paper with you to the horse and position it in the centre under the belly.
The long side of the sheet is approximately 30 cm.
If you lay the sheet across, you will get an impression of the length of a 20 cm building plate, as the short side of the sheet is 21 cm long.
If you fold the short side onto the long side and halve the overhang, you get a sheet 25 cm long - please note that the belly plate is OVAL and you have to think away the corners of the sheet.
Why is it so difficult to find a suitable girth?
The anatomy of different horse types is naturally very different.
Body shape, training condition and breeding-related differences make it difficult to find the right girth.
In addition, the horse's trunk is constantly changing during movement: in bending, when stepping under, even when breathing. With the system of saddle and girth, we now want to embrace this constantly changing trunk.
Attempts are often made to compensate for physical movement with elasticated straps. Pressure measurements have shown the problem with this: The rubber bands very often result in the girth being tightened far too tightly; if the horse relaxes and lets its belly go slack, the pressure of the girth remains undiminished. The problems this causes are obvious:
- The horse feels constricted by the girth.
- The saddle simply does not stay where it should.
Thanks to the D-ring construction specially developed and patented by Equimero®, the belly plate stays where it should. The movable D-ring construction prevents the belly plate from slipping, as it is connected to the girth straps. At the same time, the D-ring construction allows the saddle and girth system to adapt to the movements of the body, so that the horse feels a little less constricted.
Note: In the long girth version, the Equigurt® has no loops and no buckle underlays.
Please make sure that when taking measurements for the short girth, the girth buckles are over the range of movement of the elbow!
The Equigurt® can be cleaned with water and sponge. The padding of the belly plate can be removed and washed in the washing machine. This uniquely horse-friendly saddle girth is individually handcrafted according to customer wishes in Equimero's workshop in Lower Saxony - like all Equimero products.
